Business in Downtown Shreveport: No Supply Chain Breaks, Port Backlogs or Chip Issues Here!
Each day brings more grim news. Shipping containers at west coast ports are unable to offload! Prices for containers have skyrocketed! Manufacturing has slowed to a crawl because of a world-wide shortage of semiconductor microchips! There aren’t enough trucks or drivers! The global supply chain is simply broken.
Not so, in downtown Shreveport.
The Shreveport Downtown Development Authority (DDA) and Downtown Shreveport Development Corporation (DSDC) have kicked off a campaign to remind our surrounding communities that businesses downtown have no such dire issues. Gifts, products, food, family experiences and good times ARE available, and in strong supply.
Downtown Shreveport’s businesses include purveyors of vintage and antique goods, makers of handmade hats, creative art marketplaces featuring one-of-a-kind goods & home décor, embroidered & personalized items, men’s clothing, women’s and men’s shoes, gifts of small batch roasted coffees, Italian vinegars and olive oils, jewelry and glass wares of all types.
Our shops and restaurants pride themselves on locally made, locally grown & locally produced items that container ships backlogs and semiconductor chip shortages don’t affect.
These businesses also offer experiences that will be remembered and the stories retold for years to come. Why not schedule a family glass-blowing event, or plan to experience Holi-Daze at Robinson Film Center, SnoPort at Sci-Port Discovery Center, Believe at the Shreveport Aquarium and the December Downtown Artwalk?
The fun of downtown is year-round, but we are kicking off our Holiday version on Small Business Saturday, Saturday, Nov. 27. Our downtown businesses will welcome shoppers that day with food, drink and gift specials, and a Holiday Bingo game that will mean wonderful prizes for the lucky winners!
Remember that the money you spend locally stays local. It goes into our community; it helps those businesses that we depend on for their support of our schools, our churches, and our civic organizations. When we spend our money locally, we are really helping ourselves.
It seems unfair that these local heroes get only one day a year, so we are hoping to stretch it out the entire month of December and beyond. We encourage everyone to shop small and local.
